The greatest and deepest (1300 m) Gorge in Europe and the second in the world (after Colorado), whose profusion of flora and fauna, relief shapes and natural phenomena, duly puts it under UNESCO?s double protection. As part of Durmitor National Park it is included in UNESCO world heritage, as a natural reserve of mankind biosphere within MAB Program (Man and Biosphere). Tara is 140 km long, while The Grand Canyon spreads 60 km from the mouth of Bistrica into Tara to the mouth of Susica into Tara. The population of The Canyon is very small. A few villages with 20 to 50 houses, placed on scarce planes, which can nowadays be reached by new roads. The elevation of the river course ranges from 400 to 600 m, and the highest sections reach 1800 m. Daily summer temperature ranges from 20 to 32?C and by night from 3 to 15?C. |
